Barack Obama's Inaugural Address on January 20, 2009, was an outline of the problems that Americans face today. After reading his speech again, I have noticed that the word "we" has been used 62 times, while the word "I" was only used 3 times. This is significant because this tells us that "we" have a part in improving our country's present condition other than the president himself. We must act responsibly as a nation by creating new jobs, building new infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, advancing in technology to raise the quality of health care and to lower its cost, and finding alternative energy sources, and others more. In Obama's inaugural address, he says, "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America. For everywhere we look, there is work to be done." This is especially true for the economy because if we don't do anything to stop the recession, people will continue to lose their jobs and men and women would not be able to support their families.

What you have noticed about the pronouns used is very insightful. I would have never thought to go through and notice how many times a certain pronoun was used.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you made the connection that it is not the individual, but the whole country who needs to fix our economic situation.
